Message from Director
The University of Tokyo Hospital is committed to providing all patients with the best and most advanced medical care.
The University of Tokyo Hospital is supported by tradition that exceeds 150 years, and we have been a driving force for medicine and medical care in Japan to the present day. We have established our mission as to “contribute to the advancement of clinical medicine and the cultivation of healthcare professionals in order to provide each patient with the best medical care,” and based on this mission, we work under the motto: (1) to provide medical care in partnership the patient, (2) to provide safe medical care, (3) to develop advanced medical technology, and (4) to cultivate excellent healthcare professionals.
In the midst of calls of a medical crisis, there are social expectations for university hospitals to act as a last bastion. At the University of Tokyo Hospital, we have responded by working to further improve our medical care functions in order to best meet the needs of society. For instance, during this time, we have increased the number of doctors, nurses and other medical care staff, and we have established a critical care center, a children’s medical center, and a perinatal center. We also have plans to remodel some of our wards. Once they are complete, together with our existing wards, we will become capable of providing the best medical care to individual patients with different and diverse needs at their respective life stage, from the hyperacute phase to the chronic phase.
An important mission expected of the University of Tokyo Hospital by society has been research into clinical medicine and the development of advanced medical care, which carve out the medical technologies and medical care of tomorrow. The University of Tokyo Hospital has taken an active role in clarifying the causes of illnesses and in developing new diagnostic and treatment methods to enable us to provide all patients with the best and most advanced medical care. In 2016, a clinical research center with state-of-theart research functions is scheduled for completion. Accordingly, we will continue our activities to meet the expectations of society as a world-class center for clinical research.
The University of Tokyo Hospital will redouble efforts to create a healthcare environment having an exuberance of hospitality and peace of mind for all patients. To this end, we would be grateful for all your frank opinions and valuable suggestions for our hospital.
At the University of Tokyo Hospital, we are united in our determination to continue our steady efforts so that we can provide highly-advanced medical care that is safe, secure and caring, in a manner that lives up to the expectations of patients and the wider community, based on the basics of medical care, medical science and nursing, and so that we can sufficiently fulfill our responsibilities and mission as a hospital that creates a better tomorrow for medical care. Thank you for your continued support and cooperation.
